At Jefferies, we surveyed 600 people to learn more about holiday safety habits. We found that generally, people tend to be more carefree about their safety when on holiday and a large number of people fail to take out holiday insurance to protect themselves while they are away.
Holidays can be ruined by dirty water causing sickness, broken bones following a slip by the swimming pool or food poisoning from a dodgy meal. We found that 20% of people had suffered a holiday accident or illness and 15% had suffered from holiday food poisoning.
If the worst does happen, holiday insurance is critical in ensuring you’re protected and prevents you from racking up a hefty medical bill. However, holiday insurance is a priority for only 65% of people and as many as 40% of those we spoke to had travelled abroad without it in the past. This was most common amongst younger holidaymakers, with 51% of 18-24-year-olds admitting they had travelled without insurance.
Unfortunately, sometimes, amidst the fun, accidents can occur, so it’s always best to be prepared.
