Neuroscientists Warn Of Sports-related Brain Injuries

A leading authority in neuroscience has said that the risks of head injuries while playing some sports can result in symptoms similar to those who have dementia.

Repeated blows to the head could cause more risk of brain damage says John Hardy who is the chair of Molecular Biology of Neurological Disease at University College, London.

There has been a lot of media coverage about the impact of head injuries in sports like American football and boxing. However, there is less known about the effects of head injuries in other sports. Sports like football and rugby where there is more opportunity for physical contact are more at risk than others.

The news follows an incident where a Tottenham Hotspur player was allowed to stay on the pitch after he collided with another player.

If You Have Suffered From A Head Injury

There are many different reasons why someone can suffer a brain injury or brain damage. A blow to the head that causes an injury is classed as a traumatic brain injury and it can lead to serious consequences for some victims and their families.

Sporting activities, particularly contact sports like rugby, can sometimes lead to an accident where there is a brain injury. Other circumstances like a physical assault, a fall from a height or a car collision can also result in brain injuries for some victims.

An injury like this can mean you have been forced to have time off work because of and have suffered a loss of earnings. It could be that you are unable to work again and require medical assistance or have had to give up your job to look after a loved one.

If your injury happened because of the fault of a third party then it could be that you are entitled to compensation if fault can be proven.

Compensation will take into consideration all of your specific circumstances when assessing how much compensation for a brain injury. If you would like more information on how you can make a claim then please get in touch today on 0333 358 3034.
