Promising Young Footballer Gets £2m Compensation After Brain Injury Accident
A city-centre car crash that caused a teenager’s brain injury has turned his life upside down.
The accident victim from Blackley, now in his twenties and who does not wish to be named, was hit by a car as he was travelling through the city centre of Manchester six years ago.
A passing doctor applied emergency CPR treatment before the boy was rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary, where he was later diagnosed with a serious brain injury.
He was later transferred to Salford Royal’s brain injury unit where he stayed for two months. When he finally returned home he was weak and had difficulty walking. His mother said that it was ‘heartbreaking’ and that when he was at home she realised the extent of his injuries but she didn’t realise just how much the brain injury was going to affect the rest of his life.
Dreams Of Football Success Were Dashed Following Injury
The young man had been in the midst of training at a local football academy programme at Hopwood Hall College at the time of the accident. He had been looking forward to a positive career either as a player or as a coach.
He has now been told that he will not be able to work again and needs daily support from care assistants and will do for the rest of his life.
Changed After Brain Injury
Since his accident, the young man’s mum says that his personality has changed. She said that he used to be very chilled out and happy and that he had a good group of friends and a girlfriend. She added that he was very talented and played for lots of local teams in his school days.
She now says that his life has totally changed, adding: “Whilst many of his friends have visited him at home he has not really kept any of his close relationships apart from his best mate.
Although he does not live with his parents anymore he still stays close by with his young family and hopes to be able to purchase a home for them with his compensation settlement. Legal representatives said that he hopes to begin working voluntarily in the sports industry.
