Skull crush victim seeks compensation from employer

A 24-year-old man who had his head crushed against a wall in a horrific crushing accident at work is pursuing compensation from the company where he worked.

Simon Mason from Romford was working in a loading bay at Tufnells’ parcel delivery company in West Hordon when a 45-foot articulated trailer crushed him against the wall causing a serious brain injury.

Simon ended up being taken to Basildon Hospital and endured a 7-hour operation to remove a blood clot from his brain. He has since suffered from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and has been told he will suffer from migraines and headaches for the rest of his life.

Having been a normal 24-year-old man, Simon is now facing the challenge of having a brain injury following being injured at work and has so far been unable to find further employment.

The case was taken to Chelmsford Crown Court and his employer was found guilty of breaching the Health and Safety Act 1974.

It was found that the company had not carried out the necessary procedures in terms of managing the risks and controlling them and was ordered to pay £150,000 with costs of £19,000.
